December 2010

Dear donators, dear friends

Major tasks as well as smaller ones are awaiting us also next year – may we have ample strength and hope next year to do our job with passionate engagement and full of joy.

To be successful needs two things: Clear goals and the burning wish to achieve them.

move4water

The second time already we conducted the „off into the water“ event. The Fitness Center in Wetzikon (www.fzw.ch) supported our move4water activity also this year. All facilities were entirely at our disposal and in addition they sold especially labelled water bottles for ENMIGRAW Suisse.

This event showed once more the fruitful commitment resulting of an idea. We would like to use the opportunity to express our gratitude and thanks to Markus Egli and his team for their fantastic engagement. It is much appreciated!

After the Aquagym we showed a slide show about the well construction. Over tea and cakes our visitors had the opportunity to learn more about this hard work. Their interest was shown in many in-spiring discussions. Unfortunately this year we could not get as many people into the water as last year – was the weather possibly too stormy for an outing like this? Nevertheless we have been able to mark up a considerable success. By selling water bottles, Tuareg jewellery as well as by sponsors‘ support and cash donations we collected a sum of CHF. 4’810.--. This amount already secures half of the „Tilalt“ well. As usual we will keep you in the picture about this well construction.
A big „thank you“ to everybody involved!

Nomad’s Schools

That’s good news from Gougaram – we have been able to close the Home for Children and are now happily looking back at this project. More than two years ago, due to the intolerable political situation in the Talak area all nomad schools had to be closed. More than 450 Tuareg children lost their opportunity to attend school. It was a difficult situation, since we all know that education increases the future chances for success.

Therefore, ENMIGRAW Suisse in collaboration with ENMIGRAW Niger had rented a house in Arlit, in order to at least provide education to some of the pupils in the local schools of Arlit. This summer the political situation has been defused and we have been able to start teaching again in the four nomad schools. This project has once again shown that our engagement has found fertile soil and it goes without saying that we will stay in touch and continue the support for those children. We are very proud of Ibrahim Mohamed and Takini Effad (a girl). They have successfully passed the entrance examination to the College in Arlit this spring. We are excited about all further news we will surely get from „our children“.

Christmas Market at Pfäffikon

Father Christmas meant well with us this year and sent us bags full of sunshine together with temperatures above zero! No sooner had we decorated our booth than the first buyers arrived. A continual coming and going kept us busy and we were very happy about the numerous visitors. Thank you to everybody who helped fill our collection box so generously – and special thanks to Doris und Käthi who satisfied my hunger for hot chestnut.

Planning 2011

Our first priority in the new year will be the finishing of the „Tilalt“ well reconstruction. After his return in December, Mouhamed will let us have the latest news on this project.

Furthermore, we are planning the support of the Nomad’s Schools in the Talak region by providing food and ideally also school material.

The Women’s project „Tellit“ will be resumed, since we had to stop this project due to the political situation. The women transferred all their savings to our account. Thus the economical proceeds were ensured and the rebels could not get hold of them.

Unusual situations demand unusual decisions! We are looking forward to once again become more active here too, since women’s projects are always very rewarding.

For the New Year we wish all our sponsors joy and happiness!

Anita, Bea, Mouhamed and Sandra

April 2010

Dear friends, dear donators

With spring’s entrance the first crocuses and daffodils craned their necks towards the sun. For weeks the Harmatan – a hot desert wind – has blown in the north of Niger and made many things disappear under a thin layer of dust. Mouhamed is packing his suitcases, because in April he is going to visit the Home for Children and to check the well projects.

Despite the government putsch of this February – as a result of which the military junta resumed power – the political situation in the capital was soon set at ease. Currently the „Highest Councillor for the reestablishment of the constitutional Democracy“ is in power, which makes us curiously expecting the forthcoming elections. It also makes us wonder if the new government will improve the situation of the Tuareg in the north. That is what we dearly hope for.

Annual General Meeting ENMIGRAW Suisse

In February our second general meeting took place und once again it was a pleasure to welcome many interested people. The annual report was shown in the form of a picture presentation that visually documented the progress of our projects. Most of the work lies with our partner ENMIGRAW Niger as well as Mouhamed, who masters the difficulties of a good coordination of various projects fantastically.

After watching an interesting documentary film on a traditional wedding in Niger, we enjoyed a relaxing evening with delicious food and inspiring talks.

Well Construction „Tatajarat“ in Agadez

After the disastrous flooding of last autumn, more than 30 wells in the Agadez region fell victim to the flood. Rubble, mud and waste just filled the wells. Often the traditionally built wells collapsed or the concrete rings were washed away by the water pressure.

For this reason, we decided to dig a new well, in order to guarantee clean drinking water to local families.

The region strongly depends on agriculture and therefore the well should also serve for the irrigation of several gardens.

The digging work advanced well and at a depth of 25 meters the ground water level was reached. At the moment they are fixing the concrete rings and I am convinced that we will be able to report in our next ENMIGRAW News about the completion of the well.

Well Construction „Ebargaz“ in Talak – move4water Event

After the rainy season, the region around Ebargaz appears in no time in luscious green and many different grasses and brush are considered as valuable forage. To this day the Tuareg nomades have never taken adequate advantage of this region, because the next working well is 25 kilometers away.

Thanks to the proceeds of the „move4water“ event of the Fitness Center in Wetzikon and also by your sponsoring and support we were able to start construction in December.

Despite lose sand, the digging work is advancing well. Currently a depth of 28 meters is reached and hopefully we will come upon water in about 35-38 meters depths.

Jewellery Parties

Some of our members and donators have organised jewellery parties in their circle of friends. Thanks to those extraordinary activities our association was benefited with CHF 1'265.--.
At the same time, people who were interested in our work could inform themselves about the status of our various projects.

A thousand thanks to all donators for their support. Keep it up!

Our projects are small, straightforward and tangible. Even though we pursue a path of small steps, it gives people confidence about their future. There is no time to sit back!
Help us - together with the Tuareg - to realise further projects.

In this spirit we thank you for your support and wish you all a sunny springtime.

Anita, Mouhamed, Bea and Sandra
