Nomad’s Schools
Food Supply for the Schools of Intadaynawen, Mayyet and Aragh
What is granted for us and our children – we are talking about going to school – is a daily challenge in Niger. The nomadic schools are based on a full-day principle and so it is stringent to supply these schools with the financial funds for maintaining the school canteens. Basically it is the duty of the government to provide scholar education in the whole country. But reality often looks different. Especially in the nomadic aereas the concentration of schools is very low. In addition we may remind of the political turbulences in the Talak region, which had forced many of the nomadic schools to close down. In general the requirements on scholar operations are definetely high because the children have to take long walks under their feet - one of the main reasons for a full-day school-programme.
Such maintenance is expensive and without the foreign support of the nomadic schools there will be no more possibility to comply with the legal requirements of basic education for a long time. But since education is most important for sustainable development we have decided to join in here.
The school-directors of Intadaynawen, Mayyet und Aragh are very aware of this vicious cycle and for that reason they have asked us for support. The fact that we place the food at the disposal opens up a relevant chance to take part in a simple school-life for many children in a way as it is a matter of course for us.

In spite of the ongoing rebellion and fighting those schools are still in use to a certain degree and this only due to the efforts and commitment of the related directors and parents. At the moment the government does not provide the meals of the 35 scholars of Intadyanawen nor the 29 of Mayyet nor the 36 of Aragh. As a matter of fact the schools can only continue to work if ENMIGRAW supplies the food.
And so we have decided to provide them with the basic foods as millet, rice, peas, oil, sugar, salt und dried tomatoes for three months. With the restriction for a three months period we make sure that the comestible goods are only used for the schools and also that they will not be spoiled by storing.
We have drawn up the following budgets:
- Intadaynawen CHF 875.—
- Mayyat CHF 1'120.—
- Aragh CHF 1’050.—
Thanks to these contributions we can share in to guarantee local education and the children can stay on their homeland and with their families.
The children of the Nomad’s Schools look forward to your assistence.
